1. Does the writer clearly show Mathilde’s/Squeaky's
character by analyzing (not summarizing)
the way she
changes?
2. Does the writer explain what causes Mathilde/Squeaky
to change and analyze the lessons she learns?
3. Does the author support his/her observations
and opinions with specific and appropriate examples and quotations from the
short story?
4. Does the writer focus on a few important ideas
and present them clearly and in detail?

5. Is there good use of descriptive words and
vivid writing?
6. Are ideas organized clearly (by paragraph, in
logical order, etc.)?
7. Is there a strong
opening sentence and paragraph?
8. Does each body paragraph
contain a topic sentence, a quotation or example, and quality analysis?
