1. assuaged: to make milder or less
severe, relieve
He took some Advil to assuage the pain in his head.
2. persecution: cruel treatment
because of race or beliefs
The persecution of the Jews came from discrimination and
racism.
3. chattel: article of property
other than land or buildings, slaves
He had no scruples over owning human chattel, slaves.
4. impotent: lacking power or
ability
The regular citizen felt impotent in the face of the king.
He wanted to protect his daughter from danger, but felt impotent when she went

or harm to others
The malevolent witch tries to destroy Snow White’s life, but
fails.
