1. assuaged: to make milder or less severe, relieve

He took some Advil to assuage the pain in his head.

2. persecution: cruel treatment because of race or beliefs

The persecution of the Jews came from discrimination and racism.

3. chattel: article of property other than land or buildings, slaves

He had no scruples over owning human chattel, slaves.

4. impotent: lacking power or ability

The regular citizen felt impotent in the face of the king. He wanted to protect his daughter from danger, but felt impotent when she went off to school for the first time.

5. taciturn: silent, reserved in speech

The taciturn old man never uttered a word to his talkative wife.

6. unsullied: spotlessly clean and fresh, not dirtied

Her unsullied reputation was perfect.

7. alleged: to claim without proof

The alleged crime may or may not have occurred

8. ambled: to walk at a slow easy pace

He ambled through town enjoying the scenery.

9. teemed: to be full of things, abound or swarm

The drop of water teemed with microscopic organisms.

10. malevolent: evil, wishing evil or harm to others

The malevolent witch tries to destroy Snow White’s life, but fails.
