Think Write Model

Read pages 11 - 14 carefully. Write at least one page analyzing the characters George and Lennie. Reflect on their friendship, their personalities, how they treat each other, what motivates them, etc. Use a few direct quotations to focus your writing.

This passage is really interesting because you can see how kind George actually is to Lennie, even though he seems mean at first. He feels bad about snapping at Lennie over the ketch-up and so then tries to make up for it by telling him the story of the rabbits. I donŐt fully understand this story, but itŐs like their dream of a better life, like heaven on earth. When George says ŇGuys like us that work on ranches are the loneliest guys in the world. . . With us it ainŐt like that. We got a future . . . We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn. . .Ó Here we see the key to their relationship. George takes care of Lennie because theyŐre like brothers. In this hard, cold world filled with poverty and loneliness, they have each other. TheyŐre family . . . and so on . . . Write more than a page of reflection and analysis like this. Be sure to focus on specific quotations.
