a. Curley: small guy, boss’s son, cocky, always picking
fights, thinks he’s a great fighter. Picks fights with big guys because if he
wins he looks really good and if he loses people think
the big guy should have picked on someone his own size.

black, outcast (because of racism), lonely, acts mean on the outside (to
protect self), family used to have a farm, smart and has lots of books, really
cynical but even he gets excited about the dream of the farm once the guys talk
about it enough

old, lonely, only one hand, no friends, old dog, should have shot the dog
himself, had money and is really excited about the dream
