Week 11

Monday 10/31 Read in your IR book.

Tuesday 11/1 Work on the study questions for the Of Mice & Men exam. The exam will be on Thursday. If you do a thorough job writing out answers to each of the study questions, you can earn up to 10 points extra credit on the exam.

Wednesday 11/2 Finish studying for the Of Mice & Men exam. Be sure to read through all of your notes and that you know good, detailed answers for each of the study questions. If you want extra credit, the study questions are due Thursday morning before we take the exam. Work on the pre-writing for your Mice & Men essay.

Thursday 11/3 Complete the pre-writing for your Mice & Men essay. Due Friday.

Friday 11/4 Read in your IR book. If you’re reading more than one IR book, the first test is due by Thursday, November 17th.

Week 10

Monday 10/24 Read to the end of page 93 in Of Mice & Men. Read carefully so that you’re prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow. Study for the vocabulary quiz #2. The quiz will be on Thursday.

Tuesday 10/25 Finish reading Of Mice & Men. Read carefully so that you’re prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow. Bring your IR book to class tomorrow.

Wednesday 10/26 Study for vocabulary quiz #2. Make sure you know the definitions for all 20 words and you can use them all in sentences that show the meaning of the word.

Thursday 10/27 Work on the study questions for the Of Mice and Men exam. The exam will be next week.

Friday 10/28 Read in your IR book. If you’re reading more than one IR book, the first test is due by Thursday, November 17th.

Week 9

Monday 10/17 Read to the end of page 53 in Of Mice and Men. Read carefully (taking notes on stickies or paper if necessary) so that you’re prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow.

Tuesday 10/18 Complete Vocabulary #2. Get the words and the directions from the vocabulary page.

Wednesday 10/19 Read to the end of page 65 in Of Mice and Men. Read carefully (taking notes on stickies or paper if necessary) so that you’re prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow.

Thursday 10/20 Read to the end of page 83 in Of Mice and Men. Read carefully (taking notes on stickies or paper if necessary) so that you’re prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow.

Friday 10/21 Choose a new IR book and begin reading. Don't wait until the last minute this quarter.

Week 8

Monday 10/10 Based on the writing notes, my suggestions on your essay, and your own ideas, revise and write a final draft of your character analysis. Final drafts are due Wednesday, but bring whatever you have finished to class on Tuesday so I can check your work and answer questions.

Tuesday 10/11 Finish writing the final draft of your character analysis. Once you’ve made all your main changes like adding to your reflections and using MAV, read your essay aloud to check for errors and awkward sections. Make sure it sounds good and that you’ve corrected everything. Spend time on this assignment because your essay packet with all three drafts is worth 150 points.

Wednesday 10/12 Finish your Visual Representation of one of the stories we’ve read this year if you have not done so already.

Thursday 10/13 Read in your IR book. Schedule an IR test if you have not done so already.

Friday 10/14 Read in your IR book. All book tests for first quarter must be taken by October 19th.

Week 7

Monday 10/3 Based on comments from peer editors, the grading criteria sheet, and your own ideas, revise and write a second draft of your character analysis. Second drafts are due on Tuesday, October 4. Please hand in your second draft (stapled to the top of your first draft) before you leave for the field trip on Tuesday. This applies to both first and second period.

Tuesday 10/4 Work on your visual representation. Make sure you have the title, author, quotation, and a few symbols on your Photoshop document (or on paper).

Wednesday 10/5 Read to page 16 in Of Mice & Men. Read carefully so that you're prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow. Study for Vocabulary Quiz #1 if you want to re-take it this week.

Thursday 10/6 Read to the end of page 32 in Of Mice & Men. Read carefully so that you're prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow.

Friday 10/7 Read in your IR book. All book tests for first quarter must be taken by October 19th

Week 14

Monday
11/29 Finish the second draft of your Of Mice & Men essay. Due tomorrow.

Tuesday
11/30 Study for vocabulary quiz #3. Quiz on Friday.

Wednesday
12/1 Read in your IR book. All books tests must be taken by next Friday, December 10.

Thursday
12/2 Work on writing the final draft of your Of Mice & Men essay. Due Tuesday. Study for vocabulary, but we will postpone the test until next week.

Friday
12/3 Read in your IR book. All book tests must be taken by December 10.

Week 13

Monday
11/15 Work on the study questions for the Of Mice & Men exam. Study questions are due at the beginning of the period on Thursday, before you take the exam. You may earn up to 10 points extra credit on the exam if you do a thorough job writing down answers for each question.

Tuesday
11/16 Study for the Of Mice & Men exam. Make sure that you have read through all of your notes on the exam, that you know good answers to all of the reading quizzes, and that you have completed the study questions. Read through your study questions.

Wednesday
11/17 Work on the prewriting and outline for your Of Mice & Men essay. Finish studying for the exam. The exam is tomorrow and the prewriting is due Friday 11/19.

Thursday
11/18 Finish the prewriting for your Of Mice & Men essay. Due Friday. Finish your first IR book if you are planning on reading two.

Friday
11/19 Read in your IR book. Finish your Of Mice & Men essay if you have not done so already. Due Monday.

Week 14

Monday
11/22 Based on peer editing comments, the grading criteria, and your own ideas, write a second draft of your Of Mice & Men essay.

Tuesday
11/23 Get your IR finished over the vacation and make your life simpler when we return to school after Thanksgiving.

Thursday
11/11 Read in your IR book for homework tonight. Remember that we have less time for Independent Reading this quarter, so get ahead now. If you are planning to read more than one book this quarter, the first book test must be taken by November 19th. Final books tests must be taken by December 10th (before finals).

Friday
11/12 Read in your new IR book. Remember to finish a book before November 19th if your first book isn’t long enough and you want to read two books for this quarter. Work on your visual rep if you have not made a lot of progress this week. Due Wednesday. Study for the vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.

11/5 Read in your new IR book. Remember to read for 60-90 minutes each weekend so that you finish your book on time and don’t have a last minute crisis at the end of the quarter. Use IR to help your grade, not to hurt it.
