8/30 Read to page 63 in “Top Man.” Be sure to read carefully so that you are prepared for a reading quiz and/or class discussion tomorrow.

Tuesday
8/31 Finish reading “Top Man.” Reflect on the ending of the story in writing. First, explain what actually happened, then reflect on the symbolism of the ice axe and what it reveals about how Osborn has changed by the end of the story.

9/1 Read in your IR book.

Thursday
9/2 None (we’ll be getting back so late from Yosemite).

Friday
9/3 Read in your IR book. Aim to read about 70 pages per weekend, or 10 pages a night in order to reach the A level by the end of the quarter without a last minute crisis.

8/23 Choose an Independent Reading book (feel free to choose your own book or to use the class or county libraries). Bring your IR book in class one day this week for credit. Begin working on your mandala. Due Wednesday.

Tuesday
8/24 Finish your mandala—make sure you’ve put thought into this assignment, it shows something about who you are, and it is neat. If you have not done so already, finish up your inference essay.

Wednesday
8/25 Finish reading “A Whole Nation and a People.” Highlight important lines and annotate as you read. Choose at least one significant quotation from the story, write it down. Think of one important question or topic for discussion of the story. Write it down. Finish your mandala writing if you have not done so already.

Thursday
8/26 Finish reading “The Stolen Party.” Highlight important lines and annotate as you read. Choose at least two significant quotations from the story, write both down, reflect on one. See the model for an example of how to reflect on a quotation.

Friday
