1. What happens when Jack paints his face? Analyze how it influences him and how it affects the others.

2. Describe and analyze the scene where Jack and Ralph come into direct conflict. What happened to make Ralph so angry? Is he justified? What are the two viewpoints? Who do you think is right? How does each handle it differently? Who do you think handles it better? Who do the boys agree with? Who has better leadership skills? What does the conflict reveal about the two boys?
