Homework Assignments: Week 13

Monday
11/15            Finish writing the second draft of your Antigone essay. Take the peer editing suggestions, the grading criteria, and your own ideas to help you revise.

Tuesday
11/16            Study for vocabulary quiz #4. The quiz will be on Thursday. Remember to schedule an IR test this week if you’re reading two books for this quarter.

Wednesday
11/17            Work on the final draft of your Antigone essay. This assignment is worth 150 points, so work hard. Due Friday. Finish studying for vocabulary quiz #4 if necessary.

Thursday
11/18            Finish writing the final draft of your Antigone essay. Make sure that you fill out the grading criteria sheet and read through your entire essay before handing it in. Finish your first IR book if you are planning on reading two.

Friday
11/19            Read in your IR book.

Week 14

Monday
11/22            Read in your IR book.

Tuesday
11/23            Get your IR finished over the vacation and make your life simpler when we return to school after Thanksgiving.

Wednesday
11/10            Finish writing the first draft of your Antigone essay. Essays won’t be collected until Friday because there is no school tomorrow (Veteran’s Day).

Thursday
11/11            If you want to re-take the Antigone exam, study today and you may take a new version of the exam on Friday after school. Otherwise, you should read in your IR book for homework tonight. Remember that we have less time for Independent Reading this quarter, so get ahead now. If you are planning to read more than one book this quarter, the first book test must be taken by November 19th. Final books tests must be taken by December 10th (before finals).

Friday
11/12            Read in your new IR book. Remember to finish a book before November 19th if your first book isn’t long enough and you want to read two books for this quarter. Work on the second draft of your Antigone essay if you would like to get ahead, due Tuesday.

 

Week 11

Monday
11/1            Work on the study questions to prepare for the Antigone exam. You can earn up to 10 points extra credit by thoroughly answering each of the study questions. The exam will be on Thursday.

11/2            Work on the study questions for the exam.

Wednesday
11/3            Finish the study questions for the exam tomorrow and work on the pre-writing for your Antigone essay.

Thursday
11/4            Finish the pre-writing for your Antigone essay. Due tomorrow.

Friday
11/5            Read in your new IR book. Remember to read for 60-90 minutes each weekend so that you finish your book on time and don’t have a last minute crisis at the end of the quarter. Use IR to help your grade, not to hurt it. Work on the first draft of your Antigone essay, due Tuesday.

 

Week 10

Monday
10/25            Finish reading your IR book if you have not done so already.

Tuesday
10/26            Choose Creon, Antigone, Ismene, or Haimon and write more than a page reflecting on the character. Use at least two quotations to support your points. Don't spend more than 30 minutes on this assignment--focus on content.

Wednesday
10/27            Analyze the scene between Haemon and Creon. See the link for details. Due Friday.

Thursday
10/28            Finish your scene analysis.

Friday
10/29            Choose a new IR book (if you have not done so already) and begin reading. Remember to read for 60-90 minutes each weekend so that you finish your book on time and don’t have a last minute crisis at the end of the quarter.

 

Week 9

Monday
10/18            Read in your IR book. You need to take your first IR test this week if you have not done so already. You may take a test on a second book next week in order to get the total page amount you would like (650 pages for an A+, 400 for a B-).

Tuesday
10/19            Complete a quotation reflection on Antigone. Choose two important quotations from the reading and reflect on one in great depth (over a page or writing) or reflect on both (about a half page on each).

Wednesday
10/20            Read in your IR book and study for vocabulary quiz #3. The quiz will be on Friday.

Thursday
10/21            Read in your IR book and study for vocabulary quiz #3. The quiz will be on Friday.

Friday

Monday
11/3            Go through the study questions and determine which ones you need help with. Look at the essay topics and begin preparing. Work on the study questions: you may earn up to 10 points extra credit on the exam by thoroughly writing out answers to all of the study questions.

Tuesday
11/4            Finish preparing for the essay exam on Antigone. You will have the short period on Wednesday and the whole period on Thursday to write your Antigone essay. Prepare for both essays because you won’t know which will be on the essay exam until tomorrow.

Wednesday
11/5            Work on the study questions and on studying for the Antigone exam.

Thursday
11/6            Finish the study questions and studying for the exam. The Antigone exam will be given tomorrow.

Friday
11/7            Read in your IR book—avoid end of the semester stress and start early!

10/30 Complete Quotation Reflection #2: Choose two meaty quotations from the section we read in Antigone this week. (Try to write at least a page on each). See the model for further details. Remember notebook checkes are tomorrow.

10/24 Character Reflection: Antigone. Reflect on what you know so far of Antigone’s personality, strengths, weaknesses, and values. Do you agree with her values and decisions? Do you admire her? Be specific and use a quotation or two from the play. Write at least one page.
