9/14            Finish your visual representation and work on the first draft of your style analysis. Both are due on Wednesday. There is no school tomorrow.

Tuesday
9/15            Finish writing the first draft of your style analysis of All Quiet on the Western Front.

Wednesday
9/16            Based on peer editing comments, your own judgment, and our class discussion, revise your style analysis. Be sure that you use precise, active verbs, vary your sentence structure and length, and that you analyze deeply. Final drafts are due tomorrow.

Thursday
9/17            Finish reading “Top Man” and then complete a think write on the ending. What actually happened? What is the symbolism of the ax. What did Osborn learn? Did he change? Use direct quotations from the story and reflect in detail.

Friday
9/18            Read in your IR book. Read about 70 pages this weekend. Begin studying your vocabulary. Vocabulary Quiz #1 will be next week.

Week 3

Homework this week is to finish your visual representation on a theme from All Quiet on the Western Front and to read in your IR book. Take advantage of a light homework week and get a lot of reading done. Visual Reps are due by Wednesday 9/16.

Monday
8/31            Begin working on your View of  War essay. See the link for details. Be sure to look at the model essay fragment to give yourself a clear picture of how to analyze what Remarque says about war in addition to your own beliefs. Due Thursday.

Tuesday
9/1            Read all the links about WWI and trench warfare to help you with some historical data for your view of war essay. Continue working on your essay.

Wednesday
9/2            Finish writing your View of War essay. Due tomorrow.

Thursday
9/3            Read about 20 pages in your IR book.

Friday
9/4            Work on your Visual Representation for All Quiet on the Western Front. Read in your IR book. Read about 70 pages this weekend.

 

Week 1

Monday
8/24            Choose 3 quotations from Antigone and reflect on one of them in detail. Look at the model link and your last quotation reflection so that you can do an even better job on this assignment. If you truly cannot get a full page on one of the quotations, then reflect at least a half page on two.

Tuesday
8/25            Think write on the romance genre: write down what you remember of the classic romance genre and how The Odyssey and Odysseus fit into that genre. Get an IR book for this quarter.

Wednesday
8/26            Character reflection on Antigone: analyze Antigone’s character. What are her strengths and weaknesses? What motivates her? Do you admire or dislike her? Why does she behave the way she does? Use several direct quotations from the play to support your viewpoint.

Thursday
8/27            Character reflection on Creon: analyze Creon’s character as a tragic hero. What are his strengths and weaknesses? What motivates him? Why does he behave the way he does? How is he a tragic hero? Is he educated in the end? Is order restored? Use several direct quotations from the play to support your viewpoint. Don’t forget to bring in your IR book for approval.

Friday
8/28            Read in your IR book. Aim to read about 70 pages per weekend, or 10 pages a night in order to reach the A level by the end of the quarter without a last minute crisis.

 

 

Friday
8/21 Finish going through All Quiet on the Western Front and finding 5 significant quotations. Reflect on a second one (one should have been completed in class). Due on Monday: 5 quotations + 2 with page long reflections. See the model for detailed instructions and an example of how to reflect analytically and deeply.

As you go through the novel looking for quotations, review the plot, characters, significant scenes, etc. so that you are prepared for the test tomorrow. Write about one page on each quotation. Focus on analyzing the specific lines rather than summarizing the plot surrounding the quotations. Look at the model quotation reflection if you’re not sure what to do. The key to this assignment is choosing meaty quotations. Don’t start writing about a quotation unless you have a lot to say about it—choose carefully.

As you go through the play looking for quotations, review the plot, characters, significant scenes, etc. so that you are prepared for the text tomorrow. Write about one page on each quotation. Focus on analyzing the specific lines rather than summarizing the plot surrounding the quotations. Look at the model quotation reflection if you’re not sure what to do. The key to this assignment is choosing meaty quotations. Don’t start writing about a quotation unless you have a lot to say about it—choose carefully. Please handwrite this assignment because the printers at school are still not working.

Thursday
8/28 Re-read pages 58-64 of  A Doll’s House and complete a think write analysis of the scene. Emphasize content over grammar and form. Go deep, pull out quotations, and carefully analyze the two characters. Due Tuesday (but bring the first page, at least, to class on Friday)

Friday
8/29 Choose a new IR book and bring it to school on Tuesday. Start reading your IR book this weekend. Make sure you’re ready for the All Quiet exam on next Friday.
