Twelfth Night Study Questions

The Twelfth Night exam will have two main sections: a quotation identification and reflection section and a passage analysis. You will have one hour to complete the quotation reflections and the analysis of the two passages. You will not know the specific passages ahead of time. The exam will be on Wednesday, December 20.

For the Twelfth Night essay exam, you will write a well-organized, well-supported, and in-depth essay in class on Thursday, December 21. You will not know which essay will be on the exam, so prepare for all three.

1) Analyze how Twelfth Night fits into the romance genre.
2) Compare and contrast two characters from the play.
3) Discuss Shakespeare’s use of dramatic irony in the play.

In order to prepare for both exams, review your old passage analyses and make sure you know what’s expected on a passage analysis. Next, look at all three essay topics above and complete pre-writing for each potential topic. Brainstorm, find quotations, and make an outline for each topic. On the exam, you will be allowed to use one page of notes (front and back), but not your books, so prepare ahead of time.
