Homework Assignments: Week 1
Wednesday
8/27 Choose four quotations from The Great Gatsby and reflect on two of them in detail. Write approximately one page about each quotation. Focus on analyzing the specific lines rather than summarizing the plot surrounding the quotations. Re-read the model quotation reflection if you’re not sure what to do. The key to this assignment is choosing meaty quotations. Don’t start writing about a quotation unless you have a lot to say about it—choose carefully. You may want to handwrite this assignment or use your home computer, but it is unlikely that the school printers or drop off will be working on Thursday.Thursday
8/28 Re-read the scene on pages 135- 143 (or light blue frame 130 - 136) of The Great Gatsby and write a reflection on the scene. Write 2 - 3 pages and go in depth. Use specific quotations and analyze carefully, but focus on content over form. Due Tuesday 9/2.Friday
8/29 Choose an IR book and begin reading. Bring in your IR book to be checked on Tuesday if you have not done so yet. Finish your Gatsby scene reflection if you have not done so already—due Tuesday.
