2/1 Practice delivering your speech. Now that you know the entire speech really well, focus on your delivery. Practice emphasizing key words, pausing, and gesturing. Practice in front of the mirror or someone who will give you feedback on your delivery. If for some reason you still do not know the content of your speech really well, make sure you get that down tonight.Tuesday
2/2 Continue working on delivering your speech. Practice pausing, adding emphasis, speaking loudly and clearly, appearing interested, and gesturing. Final delivery on Thursday. Make sure you finish up your bibliography. Due this week (Friday at the latest).Wednesday

12/2 Begin researching for this year’s speech contest topic: Universal Health Care: How Will it Affect Us? Go to the GoogleDoc and browse articles there first, then move on to researching on your own. Be sure to get facts, statistics, and general information only from reputable sources and not from random websites. Your speech will be much stronger when you quote CNN or Time Magazine rather than wisegeek.com, Universal Health Care Action Network.org, or Bill O’Reilly’s blog. If you’re looking for opinions or thought-provoking quotations, a blog or politically aligned source is fine, but when you’re looking for facts, do the best you can to get information from neutral sources. See the GoogleDoc for examples.Thursday

If you don’t have a good internet connection at home, be sure to plan for time at school (during lunch, after school, during a free period) to get this research done.

1. Print out the "Recognizing Appeals" Worksheet
2. Click on the Ad Dissection 101 link and click on the "Tasks" button on the left. Then go on to Task #2 and fill out the worksheet as you go through all 27 slides.
3. After you've completed the worksheet, choose one of the ads in this section to write an analysis of. Write at least a half page, but aim for more. Discuss appeals, claims, point of view, position, camera angle, body language (posture), person speaking, etc. I will collect and grade this assignment, so do a good job on it.
4. If you have any time at the end of the period, work on your speech.
Image #2 Assignment
1. Print out the "How to Read an Ad" Worksheet
2. Click on the Ad Dissection 101 link and read the introduction. Click on the tasks link at the bottom of the page. Then go on to Task #1 and fill out the work sheet as you go through all 25 slides.
3. Choose two of the 4 ads at the end to analyze. Write at least half a page about each. If you can write more, please do so.
4. If you have time, work on your bibliography, due tomorrow. Also remember to work on learning your speech.
